⚫Will the Microbes Die If I Stop Adding Food Waste?Updated an hour ago
No. Without food or moisture, the microbes enter a dormant (spore-like) state to protect themselves — they don't die. They can survive without feeding for up to approximately one year.
◻What happens:
When food input stops, the microbes gradually dry out and enter a dormant, spore-like state as a self-protective mechanism. This is a natural survival response, not a sign that the colony is dying.
🔄How to reactivate them:
Add water to rehydrate the dried microbes. Then, after about half a day, resume feeding with food waste to help maintain moisture going forward.
💡 Note: Water alone only provides temporary rehydration — the internal heat will cause it to evaporate again over time. Adding food regularly is a more effective, longer-lasting way to maintain proper microbe moisture.
