✈️ 🧳 Vacation Mode: Preparing for AbsenceUpdated 2 hours ago

Overview

The Reencle is designed to remain powered on at all times during normal use. However, if you need to be away from home — whether for a short trip or an extended absence — there are specific steps to take before you leave and after you return to keep your microbes healthy.

1️⃣ Short Absence — Less Than 1 Month

Before You Leave

  • Keep the unit powered on. Do not turn it off.
  • On the day of departure, add slightly more food or water than usual to ensure the microbes have adequate moisture while you are away.

When You Return

  • Check the microbe moisture level using the Squeeze Test.
  • If microbes are dry: Add approximately 700–800ml of water evenly over the microbes and wait about half a day before resuming food input.
  • Do not immediately add a full load of food. Resume gradually — start small and increase over a few days.

⚠️ Even during a short absence, the internal heat continues to evaporate moisture. Adding extra moisture before you leave gives the microbes a buffer to stay active while you are gone.

2️⃣ Extended Absence — 1 Month or Longer

Preparing to Shut Down (Start 7 Days Before Departure)

  1. Begin reducing food input approximately 7 days before your departure date.
  2. Stop feeding entirely 1–3 days before departure. Allow all remaining food inside the chamber to fully decompose before you leave.
  3. Once food has decomposed and microbes appear dry, power off the unit and unplug it.
  4. Close both lids securely and leave the unit in place.

⚠️ Do not power off the unit while food is still inside and undecomposed. Doing so will cause the internal temperature to drop, stopping decomposition — which will lead to mold and odors.

When You Return

  1. Plug the unit back in and power it on.
  2. Allow 2–3 hours for the chamber to warm up before doing anything else.
  3. If microbes appear dry: Add approximately 700–800ml of water evenly and wait about half a day.
  4. Start with a small amount of easy-to-decompose food (bread recommended).
  5. Gradually increase food input over the following days: 300g → 500g → 700g, following the standard ramp-up schedule.
  6. Do not return to full input capacity immediately — give the microbes time to reactivate fully.

⚠️ Frequently turning the unit on and off is not recommended and can reduce microbe health over time. Reserve power-off only for unavoidable situations such as extended travel or relocation.

3️⃣ Quick Reference

ScenarioBefore LeavingWhen Returning
Short trip (under 1 month)Keep unit ON. Add extra moisture before departure.Check moisture. Rehydrate if dry. Resume feeding gradually.
Extended absence (1 month+)Reduce feeding 7 days before. Stop feeding 1–3 days before. Let food fully decompose. Power off and unplug.Power on. Wait 2–3 hrs. Rehydrate if needed. Resume gradually from 300g.

◻How to check moisture levels: the Squeeze Test
Take a small handful of the microbe media and squeeze it firmly in your fist. The ideal result: no water drips out, but the material just barely holds its shape. If it crumbles and falls apart completely, it's too dry. If water drips out, it's too wet.
