⚫Is the Noise From My Unit Normal?Updated 3 hours ago

Yes, some operational sound is normal — but a few sound types are worth checking.

Sound TypeWhat It Means
Low humming / soft mechanical soundNormal operation
Dry, scratching/friction noiseUsually indicates dry microbes — see moisture recovery steps below
Loud creaking, grinding, clicking, or rattlingMay indicate a mechanical issue — please see the troubleshooting guides below

If the noise is due to dry microbes:

  1. First, remove and discard any undecomposed leftover food or debris from inside the unit.
  2. Add water to restore moisture to the microbes.
  3. Once rehydrated, resume feeding as usual to help maintain moisture going forward.

💡 Tip: Water alone evaporates quickly due to the internal heat, so it's not a reliable long-term moisture source. Adding food regularly is a more effective way to maintain proper microbe moisture over time.

If the noise sounds mechanical (creaking, grinding, clicking, or rattling):

Please refer to the troubleshooting guide for your model:
