⚖️ Daily Capacity & Feeding Best PracticesUpdated 2 hours ago

Overview

This article covers how much food you can add to your Reencle each day, and how to build healthy feeding habits over time. Understanding your unit's daily input capacity — and how it differs from the total chamber size — is key to keeping your microbes active and odor-free.

Daily Input Capacity by Model

Model

Recommended Daily Input

Maximum Daily Input

Reencle Prime

Up to 700g

1kg

Reencle Gravity

Up to 1kg

1.5kg

Reencle Gravity Pro

Up to 1kg

1.5kg

Chamber Size vs. Daily Input Capacity

One of the most common misconceptions about Reencle is that the chamber volume equals the amount of food you can add. This is not the case.

The chamber volume — 14L for Prime, 22L for Gravity and Gravity Pro — refers to the total internal space of the unit. What determines how much you can add each day is how much the microbes can actively process within a 24-hour period. This is your true daily input limit.

Exceeding the daily input capacity does not simply mean slower decomposition — it can overwhelm the microbes entirely, leading to odors, excessive moisture buildup, and a breakdown in the composting process.

⚠️ Daily input capacity and chamber size are two different things. Always refer to the daily input limits in the table above — not the chamber volume — when deciding how much food to add.

Feeding Best Practices

  • Always check that the previous food has fully decomposed before adding a new batch.

  • Check moisture level before each input. If the microbes are clumped or wet, wait at least half a day before adding more food.

💧Moisture Check: The Squeeze Test

Once your microbes have transitioned to soil form (after 2–4 weeks), use this test to assess moisture before each input:

Result

What It Means

No visible dust on inner walls or mesh filter. Microbes appear dark and soil-like. Holds shape when squeezed, crumbles when pressed with a finger.

✅ Ideal — safe to add food

Water drips out when squeezed

❌ Too wet — do not add food. Dry mode alone is not sufficient. Full recovery steps required. See: 👉 Microbes — Wet Microbe Recovery Guide

Crumbles immediately when squeezed, won't hold shape

❌ Too dry — add water and wait before adding food

Visible dust on inner walls or mesh filter, dry friction noise audible

❌ Severely dry — add water immediately before any food input

⚠️ If the microbes are severely wet or liquified (e.g., fully liquid, no soil-like structure remaining even after following the recovery guide), replacement may be necessary.

✅ Additional feeding tips:

  • Dry foods (crackers, bread, cooked rice) can be added at any time.

  • High-moisture foods (fruit peels, watermelon) are best added when microbes are in a healthy soil state — not wet or clumped.

  • Avoid adding the maximum amount every day. Staying within the recommended daily input gives the microbes a healthy buffer.
