How Do I Know When My Reencle Compost Is Ready to Use?

Rather than relying only on the number of days, check the smell, texture, and appearance of your compost before using it.

Reencle compost continues to stabilize after it is harvested, which is why we recommend allowing approximately 3–4 weeks for curing.

1. Check the Smell

Cured compost should have a mild, earthy or soil-like smell.

If you notice a strong sour or fermented odor, allow the compost more time to cure.

2. Check the Texture

The compost should feel relatively loose and crumbly rather than excessively wet or clumpy.

3. Check for Undecomposed Food

Large or recognizable food pieces indicate that those materials have not finished decomposing.

Sift them out and return them to your Reencle so the microbes can continue processing them.

What About White Growth?

You may occasionally see white growth on the surface of curing compost.

White growth can be actinomycetes, microorganisms involved in breaking down organic material. Its presence alone does not necessarily mean that the compost has gone bad.

When in doubt, consider the overall condition of the compost—including its moisture, texture, and smell—rather than judging it by color alone.

Composting is a biological process, so some natural variation in appearance is expected.
