🟒 Healthy Microbes

Healthy Microbes

Visual

Dark, rich, crumbly soil β€” similar in appearance to potting soil or garden compost

Touch

Slightly moist β€” you can feel some moisture, but your hands do not get wet

SmellEarthy with a mild, fermented scent β€” not odorless, but not unpleasant either

πŸ”΄ Unhealthy Microbes (Wet & Oily)

Unhealthy Microbes
Visual
Soggy, clumped, or liquid in consistency. Water or oil may be visible pooling on the surface.
Touch
Wet β€” water or oil drips out when squeezed
Smell
Sour/acidic or strong ammonia-like odor

⚠️ Wet or clumpy microbes are NOT dead. In most cases, full recovery is possible.
πŸ‘‰ See: Wet Microbe Recovery Guide

⚠️ Exception: Fully liquified microbes cannot be recovered. If your microbes have completely liquified, they will need to be fully removed and replaced with a new Compost Starter pack.
